Alcohol and other drugs recovery programs for women

Toora’s counselling is delivered by degree qualified counsellors to women who have experienced the impact of their own alcohol and other drug (AOD) use. AOD counselling may also involve addressing related traumas such as:

  • domestic, family and sexual violence
  • homelessness or needing support to stay out of the homelessness system
  • mental health issues
  • time in the ACT corrections system

In line with Toora’s Practice Framework, the counselling service works within a strengths‐based, person-centred framework that is underpinned by trauma-informed care. Our counsellors use a wide range of evidence-based treatment approaches and therapeutic interventions, such as motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapies. Together, the client and counsellor explore goals and coping strategies to work through a variety of issues associated with past and present trauma.

Who is eligible?

Any woman who is over the age of 18 and is impacted by her own AOD use. Women who are already in another Toora AOD program will get priority.

Counselling packages up to 12 weeks are free. Further appointments are negotiable based on the needs of our clients.
