1982 Rewind Challenge
Join our Rewind Challenge on Thursday, 6 August 2026 during National Homelessness Week to celebrate Toora’s 44 years of helping women find safety, stability and a place to call home.
Fashions change but Toora’s purpose hasn’t
This Homelessness week (3–9 August 2026) we’re hitting rewind back to 1982, inviting you to connect with others to raise awareness and funds for women seeking a safe home free from family and domestic violence.
What Toora started in 1982 still matters today
It’s hard to celebrate our 44th birthday with statistics* like these:
- At least 2 in 5 assaults recorded by state and territory police were family and domestic violence (‘FDV’) related. Victims of FDV related assault were most commonly:
- Female (61-80%)
- Assaulted by an intimate partner (51-81%)
- At the residential location (47-87%)
- Median age of death for people sleeping rough: 46 years.
It’s time to step out without fear and take action today.

Host an 80s event
Organise a morning tea, 80s trivia for the team, or a workplace 80s rewind dress-up challenge to start the conversation about domestic and family violence and the importance of safe housing, to help raise awareness of Toora’s work.

Any odd looks from strangers on the day? Use the opportunity to share why you’re stepping out like its 1982 in support of Toora. Because every woman deserves safe housing.
